- Clean the lint screen every load, and once a month wash it with soap and water to strip softener residue, then dry it fully.
- Disconnect and clear the vent duct. Pull the dryer out, detach the hose, and remove packed lint by hand and with a vent brush. Replace crushed plastic or foil hose with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct.
- Check the outside vent. Confirm the flap opens freely when the dryer runs and clear any nest or lint mat.
- Test with a small load. A single towel should feel warm and dry in one normal cycle. If it does not, heat is the issue.
- Feel the exhaust. Weak or cool air at the exterior vent while running points to a blockage or a heat problem.

If airflow is clear and the dryer still will not heat, the problem is likely inside the cabinet: a burned-out heating element, a blown thermal fuse, a faulty thermostat, or on gas models a failing igniter or gas valve. These involve testing electrical components and, on gas units, working with a fuel line. That is technician territory.
