Why Your Circuit Breaker Keeps Tripping and How to Fix It Safely

The Three Reasons a Breaker Trips

Nearly every trip falls into one of these categories. Identifying which one you have narrows your search quickly.

  3. Inspect cords and plugs. Look for cracked insulation, melted plugs, or scorch marks. A damaged cord is a common source of a short.
  4. Move high-draw appliances to different circuits so they are not sharing one breaker.
